Advent of Buddhism

The chronicled history of the Kingdom, 

however, begins with the advent of Buddhism 

in the 8th century –the arrival of  Guru   

Padmasambhava in 746 AD.

Some historians argue that Buddhism 

reached Bhutan before the arrival of Guru 

Rinpoche Probably in the 7th Century.

Bhutan-only nation in the world that has 

remained a sovereign independent country 

throughout its recorded history which goes 

back to the 7th century A.D
